Day Camps

More Cowan Creek Day Camps are on the way!   Besides the music school, in 2017 we will also offer:

debra fieldsThe Cowan Creek Art School, June 12-16.  Led by visual artist and educator Debra Fields, kids and grown ups can get creative.  Watercolor with Jeff Chapman-Crane, metal jewelry design with Kevin Blomenkamp,  make your own walking stick with Debbie Tuggle Pendley, puppet-making with Kim Carden, clay scultpure, painting and much more.

The Cowan Creek Farm School, July 10-14 , will offer hands-on fun in the garden, field trips to local farms and the farmer’s market, and cooking with local chefs daily.  Directed by Valerie Horn of Grow Appalachia and Community Farm Alliance along with master gardeners.  All ages and anyone who eats is welcome!

The Cowan Creek Science School, July 17-21, will let kids explore their big world.  Look forward to hands-on stream biology, a first look through a microscope, a close encounter with birds of prey and lots of amazing experiments.  We are proud to partner with the Challenger Learning Center to offer enrichment in science for Letcher County kids.  Coordinated by Debra Fields.  For the week’s schedule click here:  Cowan Creek Science School Schedule 2017photo (10)

All day camps begin at 9:00 am and end at 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday at the Cowan Community Center. Registration will begin at 8:30 am on Monday and parents/guardians will need to stay a few minutes to sign permission slips. Nutritious morning snacks and lunch will be served each day.  We are pleased to serve as a site for the USDA summer feeding program for children.  Classes will be offered concurrently for two levels: Ages 4 to 7 and ages 8 to 12.  Classes for teens and adults will be available during the art camp (check back for the full schedule in April).  Thanks to a generous grant from the Berea College Appalachian Fund and other donors, there will be no cost for students.
