KarlyDawn & Little Sarie with Fiddlin Professor Jesse Wells present:
Sarah Wood O’Donnell, Karly Dawn Milner and Jesse Wells have been playing music together for a long time and have all taught this music at Cowan Creek Mountain Music School and beyond.

Karly Dawn, Sarah, JesseWe are missing our Cowan Creek Mountain Music Family so much this year! So we are holding a Tuesday Night Faculty Concert, of sorts, from home this year! It is FREE and we hope many will attend or watch later, whether or not you are able to donate a few dollars for the Cause, please join us either way!

Normally, twice next week, a CCMMS Faculty Concert would have all the faculty on one or other night, performing a set, sometimes solo and sometimes together in groups and is usually held at the Appalshop Theatre and broadcast live on WMMT. Attendees include participants of CCMMS whose ticket is free and then many paying guests who travel to this historic building for the special concert and of course radio listeners.

This year, we’re going to hold a smaller concert on Tuesday evening that friends and family can enjoy from around the world. And hopefully raise some $$$ for the school that employs many and because of donations, can give many scholarships to young people interested in carrying on our very special and world renowned, Kentucky Traditional Music!!! We’re expecting a special Cowan Youth performance, or two!
****Cowan Creek Mountain Music School convenes each last week of June to celebrate and teach traditional mountain music, arts and skills to people of all ages. Monday through Friday the student would have a light breakfast, power talk and song, morning classes, lunch on the grounds of Cowan Creek Community Center, followed by optional afternoon activities of many sorts, including but not limited to: Master Music Concert that would follow each lunch, then class / mass jamming, a nap/swim/jam, then evening Squaredance on Monday, Wed & Friday, and then Faculty Concerts on the Tuesday & Thursday evenings. AND the Friday evening Cowan Creek Community Dinner and Student Recital Concert!
Core Classes each year include beginning, intermediate and advanced offerings in fiddle, banjo, guitar, as well as a StringBand Class and Kids On The Creek where the smaller children can enjoy music, dance, life skills, traditional play-party games, while often their parents or grandparents take their own class! There have been special classes in Bass, Dulcimer, Singing, Storytelling and more.
The Cowan Creek Mountain Music School is produced by the Cowan Community Action Group, Inc. with help from the Letcher County Board of Education and Appalshop.  Many scholarships are given and a huge team of people are employed in this huge undertaking by putting on a yearly school like this, right in the heart of the Kentucky Mountains where many of the masters live right down the road and the hospitality and fellowship is like non-other! Please see the website and make plans to attend CCMMS 2021!!
