Information for Students

Class size for all instruments is limited to 10.  Please register as early as possible to be sure you get the class you want.  If while registering online you find your class choice is already full, you can indicate another class choice.

Tuition  is $250 for Kentucky residents, $350 for out-of-state students and $250 for Kids on the Creek (see scholarships below).  This includes 5 days of  morning classes (9:00am to 11:50am), lunch, and all concerts, jam sessions and workshops.  

Registration  Adults and youth who are not requesting a scholarship can register online HERE .   If you prefer to send a check for tuition rather than use the online service, please contact Stacy and use the address below.  All students are encouraged to get signed up as soon as possible because class size is limited to 10 students.

The Deadline to Register is Friday, June 9th 2023.

Scholarships are available for youth age 22 and younger thanks to a generous bequest from Nancy & Harvey McClellan.  Scholarships are also available for adults in need.   Scholarships may be requested when registering for class by selected the “Scholarship Ticket”.

What to bring:  
*Music students should bring an instrument in playable condition and extra strings. 
*Guitar and banjo students will need a capo. 
*Fiddle players at the intermediate or advanced level should be aware that orchestral type gut strings do not work for cross-tuning and should consider changing to steel or perlon strings before classes start. 
*Dancers (or aspiring dancers) should bring hard-soled shoes. 

IMG_4104-1024x768Food:  Lunch is provided at the Cowan Community Center each day.  You can look forward to a variety of fresh and local foods and vegetarians will be well provided for.  For other meals, most students go out to eat in Whitesburg, or make their own meals at their campsites and motel rooms. We are happy to make recommendations to local eateries!

The Cowan Elementary School, Cowan Community Center and Appalshop are wheelchair accessible. The Cowan Creek Mountain Music School is a family event; no alcohol, drugs, profanity or frowns are permitted.
