Calvary Campus Mission Retreat Center in Letcher County
The Calvary Campus during the Cowan Creek Mountain Music School. The Calvary Campus is a Christian Mission retreat center located in Blackey, KY. It is a part of Meridzo Ministries.
The Calvary Campus is a 25 minute drive from both the Cowan Community Center where most CCMMS activities will be taking place.
Cowan has reserved a block of rooms at Calvary which offers communal, dorm-style bunk housing for $20/person per night.
For husband and wife pairs, they also offer a limited number of suites for $80/person per night. Suites consist of one queen bed with a private kitchen, and restroom.
What to know:
- Calvary Campus boasts gorgeous, peaceful views of the natural landscape.
- Music is welcome.
- Campfire access available.
- Kitchen access available.
- Men and women must be housed separately unless married and specifically renting the suites designed for married couples.
- Linens are not provided.
- Absolutely no drugs or alcohol on the premises.

Camping
Wiley’s Last Resort in Letcher County
The nearest camping option is Wiley’s Last Resort, on top of Pine Mountain just behind the Cowan Elementary School. Wiley’s has a bath house with toilets and showers with hot water and a shared, outdoor, primitive kitchen facility.

Carr Creek State Park in Knott County
The campground features sites with standard water and electric hookups and easy access to the waterfront. It is a 20-30 minute drive from Carr Creek to the Cowan Community Center.

Fish Pond Lake in Letcher County
Fish Pond Lake is a pristine man-made lake, located one mile west of Payne Gap off U.S. 119 in Jenkins, KY. There are three individual bathrooms with showers available at the campsite. Primitive camping or RV camping with water and electric hookups available by reservation.

Airbnb & Hotels
There are a small number of airbnbs available during the CCMMS week. To search for available options, visit the airbnb website here.
Unfortunately, there are no traditional hotels in Letcher County at this time. The nearest neighboring towns that have hotels are in Hazard, KY, Pound, VA and Wise, VA. These are each about a 30 minute drive from Whitesburg.
